Pear Room 2-3 years

Welcome to Pear Room

Pear room is a dedicated space for children aged 2-3 years old. This area is made up of two rooms rich in natural light with direct access to outdoor space. Both rooms are well furnished with a variety of age-appropriate resources. The rooms are designed with designated areas to ensure that there are a variety of learning opportunities that promote all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This curriculum provides guidance and learning goals on stages of development all the way through to the end of reception year.

Our toddlers have access to a beautifully lawned garden area which consists of various sections to encourage exploration and promote a variety of learning opportunities. These sections include a mud kitchen, picnic table, construction area, water wall, road track and large sit in sand pit. Staff provide children with a wide range of outdoor resources that are stored in labelled boxes which encourage the children to select which resources they would like to use. The children also have access to a tarmacked playground that is fantastic for riding our bikes, trikes, cars and scooters. This is also home to our wonderful wooden climbing frame that supports children to develop their gross motor skills.

The experienced, qualified and long serving staff team are passionate about the care and development of our toddlers and have been chosen to work with this age group because of their knowledge, experience and expertise. Each child is allocated a staff member as a key person. In their role as key person, the staff ensure that routines are followed and provide planned activities that are designed to move your child on to the next stage in their development.

Both rooms provide a ‘cosy corner’ for relaxing, sleeping and looking at books, a natural resources area filled with a variety of open-ended resources and heuristic play materials, a hard floored area complete with sensory tray, and a carpeted area for children to explore and play. There is a designated nappy changing and toilet area, where children are supported with toileting or changed, and nappies and wipes are stored.

Staff record information for parents using our online daily diaries. This includes sleep times, meals, nappy changes and the wonderful activities your child has enjoyed doing throughout the day. This information is shared with parents on collection and a copy of the diary can be accessed using the Blossom app.

We believe it is important to support your child as an individual and therefore our room routines are not rigid, but instead flexible and reactive. This means every day is different and ensures each child receives the same opportunities for learning, play and exploration.

Experienced staff will use their expert knowledge to support your child and ensure they settle well into nursery life from the beginning. The time this takes will be quite different for each individual child, however staff will regularly engage with parents to encourage links between home and nursery that create familiarity for your child.

Before your child starts at nursery we provide settling in sessions and an optional home visit.  These ensure each child becomes familiar with the environment and the staff, in particular their key person. During this time, we will discuss routines, likes and dislikes and provide support for each family during this transition.
